Hi Beth,
I’ve seen a bunch of clitoral stimulating creams and gels at Sara’s Secret that claim to increase sensitivity or make things more intense. Are they legit?
I’m tempted to try one, but I don’t want to waste my money or end up itchy or sore down there!
Kensie
Dear Kensie,
I hear you…I had my doubts, too.
The short answer? Clitoral arousal gels do work for many people by significantly increasing sensitivity and enhancing pleasure. But as with most things in life, results vary from person to person, body to body.
In fact, they are very similar to the lip plumpers found in most make up departments. Even though they are mild, they can have a “too big” response on some people while having no effect on others.
Let’s start with the basics. These products usually contain ingredients like L-arginine, which boosts blood flow, and natural stimulants like peppermint or menthol. Those last two don’t actually heat or cool your skin, but they trigger nerve endings that simulate a warming or cooling sensation. Think of it as a gentle tingle or rush that “wakes up” the clitoris and creates more awareness of sensation. That alone can help some people feel more turned on, more easily.
Yet others may find the sensations uncomfortable, or unpleasantly intense. Needless to say, I suggest that anytime you try a new product on your lips or your clit, you start with only a tiny bit to see how your body will react. That said, these products aren’t a magic fix, and they’re definitely not one-size-fits-all. Some of my clients swear by one brand, others are firmly attached to another.
Even specific brands offer an assortment of products designed to cause a variety of different sensations. While one gel may leave you doubting your receptivity, another might make you tingle in delight!
Since neither of us wants you spending money on products that don’t work for your body, one fun and budget-friendly idea is to team up with a few trusted friends who are also curious. Each of you buys a different item to try (using hygiene techniques like they do when you test lipsticks) and then you compare notes and swap products.
That way, you each get to “sample” several different items and hopefully find at least one that turns you on just right! Everyone’s body responds differently, so sharing your experiences can help each of you find your personal favorites without the trial-and-error feeling quite so lonely, or expensive.
When you’re ready to try one, remember to start with only a tiny amount. Wait 15 minutes to decide if you want to use more. Also, apply externally only. These are not for internal use.
All in all, I think clitoral gels can be a great way to turn up the heat or cool things down,a s you prefer! They can also be particularly helpful if you find yourself having difficulty getting aroused due to stress, hormonal cycles or medications. So, if you’re curious, indulge yourself and take a chance. It might be the easiest and most pleasurable self-care you can give yourself.
And, of course, one of our Sara’s Secret staff members will give you all the help you need to choose a great starting point for your pleasure experiment
Here’s to finding new ways to increase YOUR pleasure!
Hugs,
Beth
