Online dating has reached an all time high due to the hectic lifestyle and busy work schedules for many singles. Roughly 15% of Americans have used at least one online dating service with only 2/3 of this number actually going on a date with someone they met online. 5% of couples met their significant other online (I am one of those) and 20% of singles have asked for help in writing their online dating profile.
So what is the secret to crafting an online dating profile that will attract the man or woman of your dreams?
This article from Match.com, Make Your Dating Profile Pop! has some great tips!
Here are a few highlights:
Online Dating Profile: Photos
Be sure they are current (within the last 3 months). If you are serious about finding love online, then you are going to have to eventually meet someone…right? Present yourself in several different scenarios – action shots, casual, formal (if possible) and PLEASE be alone! It is confusing when you are with lots of other guys, girls, pets, kids, grandkids, etc. I know you want to showcase your family. Remember there is plenty of time to do that once you get to know someone. Make it about YOU first! Ideas for best photo practices from Huffington Post.
Online Dating Profile: Description/Bio
This is a very fine line of information for an online dating profile: Not Enough vs Too Much!
eHarmony has some examples to get you started.
Ladies – please write your description with bullet points and LOTS of white space. After all, guys are visual and they are spending the majority of time on your photos not reading about you.
Gentlemen – please think of something original to write about yourself (where you have vacationed and why you loved it, what you do on a lazy Saturday afternoon, etc.). Give the girls something meaty to read that doesn’t sound like every other guy.
Online Dating Profile: Questions/Conversation
Have you ever heard that “questions denote interest”? Once you get into a conversation, ask questions to keep the conversation going. It signifies interest and helps you get to know someone better. Don’t spend too much time in the “online” space – trade phone numbers so you can hear the other person’s voice. A person’s voice will tell you alot about them. It will also help you decide if you want to meet in person or not. Here are some great examples from eHarmony.
Dating sites can be most beneficial to you. There are many that are free and many that are a paid subscription. If you are serious about finding your next love, then be serious about the process. Online dating can seem like a full time job. You definitely get out of it what you put into it especially when writing your online dating profile.
Dating Sites Reviews has compiled a list of sites along with a brief description. The list outlines those with a paid subscription and those that are free. This is a great resource for you!
